GRANOLA

Personalized Gamification for Enhancing Adherence and Compliance in Digital, Decentralized Clinical Studies.

GRANOLA – Concept Overview

GRANOLA: Personalized Gamification for Clinical Studies

GRANOLA is a research project funded by the BMWK that aims to improve adherence and compliance in digital, decentralized clinical studies by employing personalized gamification. The project develops a modular, AI-driven gamification engine that dynamically adapts game elements—such as progress indicators, personalized challenges, and reward systems—to individual participant data and contextual factors.

By integrating this engine into existing clinical study platforms, GRANOLA seeks to reduce dropout rates and enhance patient engagement. The innovative solution leverages real-time data to continuously adjust the gamification strategy, ensuring that the study experience remains motivating and patient-centered.

The project addresses key challenges in decentralized clinical trials, including the lack of direct contact with study personnel and the consequent risk of non-adherence. Through a dynamic, personalized approach, GRANOLA sets a new standard in digital clinical research.

"GRANOLA redefines adherence in clinical studies by combining AI-driven personalization with gamification, making the patient experience engaging and adaptive."
